Following the red trail markers, the path wanders slowly upward through mixed forest habitat dominated by beech, oak, maple, hemlock, and hickory trees. The trail’s end point introduces walkers to a high ground section of exposed rocky flatlands, with large sections of open grassland, shrubs, and mosses.
This trail is part of an expanding trail system that is slated to traverse a greater portion of the upland habitat area of the preserve, and offer the option of a loop trail with views of Black Lake.
The mission of the Indian River Lakes Conservancy is to conserve, protect and encourage the sustainable management of the water, land, and biological resources in the Indian River Watershed for the benefit and enrichment of future generations.
This trail is within Ferrone Woods Preserve and is managed by the Indian River Lakes Conservancy. The conservancy provides public access to trails from dawn until dusk. For more information, please visit the Indian River Lakes Conservancy online.
